September 2015 Dividend income Update: $697.50 8

Hello everyone. Welcome to my September dividend income update. The weather has changed a lot here in Toronto. It is quite chilly out in the morning and night and gets warmer during the day. I can see colors of leaves are changing so I am trying to enjoy the last bit of this quite pleasant weather before infamous nasty winter hits Toronto, Canada.

As I mentioned in my September net worth update, the market has been extremely volatile thus my net worth stayed at the similar level for a while now. Well I don’t really care about how market and my net worth moves because they will always go up and down. On top of that I always get paid through dividends regardless of how market moves. My stocks may decrease their values further but as long as fundamentals are there then the stock prices will eventually catch up to fair values or even higher than fair values. It is just a matter of time so patient is a virtue when it comes to investing. I love oil stocks a lot lately and have been buying a lot of them as they are very cheap now. No one can expect how long low oil price will stay but eventually it will be recovered and when that happens, the price will bring up the value of oil stocks together. When that happens, I will happily restructure my portfolio to reduce my oil stock position.

My wife and I as well as our miss greyhound enjoyed the last bit of walk here and there including beautiful University of Toronto. We live right next to University of Toronto, so if you spot us walking with a brindle greyhound please come say hi.

About three weeks ago, we went to see Scott McGillivray, the Income Property man’s side business event (free) called Keyspire.

Yup. He is the man!

For those who do not know about Scott, please watch some episodes of Income Property. It is pretty entertaining. Whenever I watch his shows, I want to buy my own income property. 🙂

Basically Scott is a home renovator that shows people different ways to generate passive income through buying and renovating good income properties. It is all about passive income baby! Anyway, he was a great speaker and I saw a lot of people signing up for 3 days $999 workshop after the introductory event. 7The workshop will teach people how to get rich slowly through buy and hold real-estate strategies by utilizing several financing, tax and investing methods. Good for people who signed up and I hope the workshop becomes their wakeup moments to be financially independent.

Scott even explained the classic example of choosing between 1) 100% compounding at 1 cent every day for rest of life or 2) $2 million today. At 100% of compounding of 1 cent everyday, you can accumulate $21 million within a month.

When you buy good quality companies, you typically get paid with regular dividends, and within enough time, you end up with solid portfolio of companies that pays you sufficient dividends to cover your expenses. Once your expenses are fully covered by those free dividend payments, you can reallocate your energy and passion to do something you like rather than sucking up with your hated bosses from your day job. I am not saying you should quit but what’s better than making money by what you dream to do? You get paid no matter what… when you sleep, when you travel, when you don’t feel like to commute for an hour to get to work, when you are sick of dealing with office politics… You can put whatever hated reasons you can think of here to focus on your dividend (or passive) income strategy. Without going on another 50 hours to explain further, here is a list of stocks that I received dividends in September, 2015.201509 Div income

Business is as usual for me… or actually not. My September passive dividend income collection was fantastic. Total payment hits the record of $697.50. Just $2.50 shy of $700. I am extremely pleased with the result as I really didn’t do anything to earn the free cash payments other than keep living within our means, saving religiously and buying great stocks at low regardless of where the stocks will be headed temporarily. It is very easy and you can start it right away so let me repeat what I said. “We live within our means, save as much as we can and invest wisely”

I have collected $561 of dividend income in July, $278 in August and $697.50 in September. Average of the three is close to my family’s monthly grocery budget. What did I do to collect the money? Nothing… I did really nothing to collect the money. On top of that, the dividend income is getting higher and higher as time goes by. For example, my Cominar REIT stocks provided me $42.88 in July but in August I got paid a little bit higher at $43.12 due to automatic DRIP set up with the stock then it became $43.37 in September. It will keep increasing its body infinitely. I am quite confident that in 5 years, the company will pay me $57-60 monthly and within another 5 years the company will pay me $75-$80 or even higher monthly. That’s how reliable and predictable high quality dividend income companies provide their returns to you even though you do nothing to collect them. Just buy, forget and collect dividends forever. Think about it, all of my dividend stocks from my portfolio will get themselves bigger and pay me more every month.

I am definitely on the right track because in July and August 2014, I received nothing and in September 2014, I only received $359. July 2015 dividend income increased by $561 compared to the last July, August 2015 dividend income increased by $278 compared to the last August and September 2015 dividend income increased by $338.50 compared to the last September. Wow. What a result!

On top of that, I purchased the following dividend stocks in August 2015 from the proceeds of selling VTI.

140 shares of ARLP at $24.82.

100 shares of BHP at $35.58.

120 shares of CSX Corp at $29.60.

40 shares of Chevron at $83.20.

76 shares of NOV at $39.52.

34 shares of NSC at $81.99.

36 shares of UNP at $92.68.

50 shares of WMT at $71.80.

All the purchases will add US$1300 to my annual dividend income. That’s more than $100 every month. Yay!!!

I will keep buying when opportunities are out there in the market. I see many opportunities lately due to the crash of the oil price which is just perfect for me. As you may know, it did not take too long to build this portfolio. When I started this blog (a year ago), my net worth was around 80K (excluding my car) and that only provided me less than $2,000 of annualized dividend income. However, now it provides predictable $6,000 of annualized dividend income per year and that number will always go up. Amazing huh?

Hello, It’s great to see the dividend income in a bar chart; it has impact. What discount brokerage firm do you use? Do you utilize synthetic DRIPS? Regards,

Wow! Not only did you have an impressing record setting month at $697.50, you also managed to put a very healthy amount of capital to work to increase your forward dividends by another roughly $1,300! You are making amazing progress over there…keep up that momentum!

Best wishes and continued success! AFFJ

Thanks AFFJ. Things are looking better than before and I feel the progress everyday. Definitely focusing on increasing dividends by purchasing great stocks has been helping me build my net worth significantly.

      Thanks for stopping by!

Solid results for September. Not many names in common between our portfolios for the month but that’s OK too. I do see BNS though. I’m still liking those Canadian banks. Like that screenshot showing 100% compounding for a month. That really drives a point home. Of course, 100% is not realistic but the effects of compounding are still huge over time. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the Canadian autumn.

Haha yeah, I have been focusing on buying depressed companies so you may not find stocks in common. Good you have BNS. I will increase the position whenever I get a chance although I plan to buy more of oil and gas stocks for a while. Thanks for stopping by DivHut. Happy hunting!
